What Nadia did next: epilogue

You’re here because you want to know what happened once I got rid of my £1500 a month steady retainer client and raw-dogged my business without a security blanket I could fall back on if I didn’t close fresh business.

The short of it?

I tripled, even quadrupled, my monthly income (and even hit a handful of 9 and 10K months, though that wasn’t intended as much as it was a happy surprise).

The long of it?

I’m going to level with you and share that my retainer client involved me writing 4 blog posts a month. Some copywriters reading this might think I’m mental for turning down £500 per blog post, but that’s just not my strength.

I know writers who can bang out blogs like they’re working on a Shein production line. That’s not me.

I can write blogs, but finishing a single in-depth, well-researched, original piece takes me weeks.

I know my blog posts are good because I frequently get DMs and emails thanking me for the very few instructional ones on my website, but can I produce these at a high volume? No.

Is it my zone of genius? No.

Do I enjoy offering it to clients? No.

And I knew I had to cut that sh*t out because it drained me.

What didn’t drain me was web copy and business strategy.

So after that retainer was gone, I put ALL my energy into those 2 ‘branches’ of my business.

Since then, I’ve written 36 websites and run over 100 Business Blitz, Hotline, and Business Strategy-related sessions. I’ve worked with a cross-section of coaches, entrepreneurs, copywriters, website designers, homeware brands, employment consultants, wellness instructors, healers and more.

And I can guaran-f*ckin-tee I would never have had space or time for those clients if I’d held tight to my retainer security blanket.

I’d love to say this is where the story ends, and I spent the rest of my life writing websites like this one and this one and this one, and getting endless praise from happy clients saying embarrassing stuff like:

“Working with Nadia was an absolute bloody delight from start to finish. She has a robust, clear process that makes you as the business owner feel from day one that your message is in safe hands. I appreciated how Nadia takes risks and makes stretchy suggestions - you'll never end up with "blah" or "beige"…

You get so much more than copy when you work with Nadia, and I wouldn't consider hiring anyone else for business copy in future.”

But the truth is…

The real hard truth is…

My heart’s not in it this year.

And I’m in desperate need of change.

A change of pace. A shift in work style. And maybe just a break from explaining the same things over and over and over again.

So once I complete and deliver my final 2 websites this January, I’m taking an indefinite break from writing web copy.

And turning my attention towards the copywriting gig that got me into my career as a writer in the first place.

Emails.

Specifically? Helping YOU enjoy writing them too and helping you build hard habits like writing regularly to your list (and somehow, selling to them too).

So that’s why I’ve been banging on about my group thingy in my last few emails, cos i’d like to bang on about them with you.

I don’t know what the year ahead has in store, but I guess the 1 thing I’d like to impart at the end of this tale (if you got this far) is that your business is about you too.

Never ever forget that.

Because if you don’t love and enjoy what you do, it becomes very hard to wake up and sit at a desk to do the things you’re being paid to do.

So I ask you again, as the sun rises in 2025, and there are 360-odd days ahead of us…

Do you need to burn a blanket this year? And if so, what are you burning?

Hit reply to my email and let me know. Or quietly mull it over with a coffee.

I’ll leave that bit to you, friend.
